Dear Jack,
I’m writing to tell you something about the adjustment of our legal holidays .
The new holiday plan ay Day holiday from three days to one day and for the first time adds a day each ---the Tomb-sweeping Day , the Dragon Boat Festival and the Mid-Autumn Festival to the list of legal holidays.
Recently our class has held a heated discussion about the adjustment .
Three quarters of the students are in favour of it . Their reasons are as follows. Firstly , as an ancient country with a history of over 5,000 years, traditional festivals represent part of the Chinese nation’s culture heritage. Secondly , every traditional festival has its speeaning. Take Dragon Boat Festival for example , people show great honor and respect for our ancient poet, Quyuan, in forms of wrapping and eating zongzi and holding dragon boat races. Another traditional festival ,Tomb-sweeping Day also provides people with a chance to show mourning or respect to their ancestors ,late friends, relatives or heroes .
However , one fifth of the students in our class don’t think it necessary to make an arrangement . In their opinion, the cancel of May Day Golden Week has made them unable to take a long travel . And people especially young people can’t enjoy themselves thoroughly in the short three-day holiday. Besides , the tourism industry has suffered a great loss as a result of the cancellation of the golden week.
As far as I’m concerned , the first adjustment is necessary . Although long holidays can contribute to the development of tourism , it causes all kinds of problems such as traffic jam and pollution. This new plan may solve these problems perfectly. For my part , the second adjustment is much more meaningful than the first one. The three holidays are not only some traditions but also an important part of ancient Chinese cultures ,therefore, making these traditional festivals legal holidays will help protect folk customs and contribute to keeping them alive in the modern society where they are always forgotten.

Currently there is a widespread concern that should the golden week holidays be abolished among Chinese citizens.As is known to all,the golden week holidays refer to the 7 days holiday on May and October,aiming at celebrating the Labor Day and Notional Day.Whereas,since 2007,holidays had been abolished which were brought into public focus.
Evidently,the golden week holidays had promoted the development of economy strongly,especially the Tertiary industry,take the tourism and food industry for examples,are of greatest benefit.Furthermore,people make most use of the holiday to relax and make their life more colorful by traveling,shopping,visiting friends and so on.To some degree,it relieves work people from the daily life which is always in the shadow of big pressures.
Nevertheless,an entire string of problems has aroused due to the golden week holidays.To be exact,what people did has led to the situation of environment and transportation becoming worse and worse.Certainly,we may attribute to the large population.
In terms of me,I side with the attitude that the golden week holidays should be recovered.No matter the national economic development or we citizens all need the holidays so as to achieve a high speed in soaring the economy or enjoy the beautiful life.

Should the golden week be canceled?
People are wondering whether we should keep the golden week or not. As we know, it goes without saying that golden week is a great time for commuters, students, or other social workers to do things they like. However, for it’s being too long, someone argues that canceling the golden week is beneficial for people in the long term.
They also have various reasons to support their ideas. Here are the illustrations made by the supporters. To begin with, they regard the golden week as an opportunity, which is once in the blue moon, to be together with their families. With the increasing pace of social development, it becomes more and more difficult for people to spare time with their beloved ones. On the other hand, they do need sometime to rest themselves. As a result, the golden week just fits their appetite, to share and to relax.
The opposite voice also makes sense. Dose anyone think of the negative influence placed on us? After a long period of time relaxing, people will get holiday syndromes, such as lethargy, lasting tiredness, the lack of passion of nearly everything. In their opinion, that does more harm to their later work or life. What are worse, people will indulge themselves to beer and skittles, wasting time and energy to the meaningless staff, which is considered as guilty in such competitive society.
Both are reasonable. Let’s suppose, if there were no long holidays like the golden week, how could the tourism industry boom, the service sector grow as well as the isolated relationship rebuild? So, I don’t want the golden week to be canceled. People need enough rest, only with which we can live a colorful and fruitful life.
